At long last, I’m delighted to put these gospel songs and spirituals into the world. Such joy! Thank you again to vocalists Cheryl Jackson and Curtis Reed, and pianist/vocalist extraordinaire Dr. Michael Williams, the fabulous musicians who lent their time, talent, and passion to making these sing-along songs a reality for elders with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
To download all 19 gospel songs and spirituals at once, click here. (It’s a fairly large MP3 zip file, 87MB, so it’ll take a minute or two.) Soon, I’ll incorporate these songs into the general list of hymns so you can choose them individually if you prefer.
I’ve incorporated the lyrics for the gospel and spiritual songs into a revised lyrics songbook as well.
Bonus Tracks
You’ll note that there are three gospels/spirituals that are remakes of already recorded sing-along songs: I’ll Fly Away, Amazing Grace, and What a Friend We Have in Jesus. I just thought it would be neat to have alternate versions with a different feel.
There is also a bonus track: Cheryl Jackson singing “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” with Dr. Michael Williams on the piano. It’s not a sing-along, but oh, what a beautiful performance! “It’s got that magic,” said Kyle, our sound engineer. “I think of Disney for some reason … you know, a princess-ran-away-the-prince situation” … although to me, it sounds like Cheryl has found her Prince.
Hooray! And may God use these to bless the elders in your care.
