Dementia-friendly church service: Security (July 4)

Ordinarily I would not combine church with national flags or images, including the Captain America shield 🛡 ! But holidays are helpful memory touchpoint for older adults with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, so I make an exception for celebrations such as U.S. Independence Day (July 4). This week’s nondenominational church service for the July 4 holiday celebrates security.

In this updated service (fixed sound), I include some U.S. history as an enjoyable memory aid. But the biblical point is much greater: God is our only true and eternal security, “our help and our shield” (Psalm 33:20).

Watch the 45-minute worship service video on security, for July 4, here.

If you’d like to offer a version of this service yourself, here’s the written worship service agenda on security.

If you live in a country other than the U.S., I encourage you to do a little research on your country’s origins and swap that information in. However, the homily on security is general enough for any audience and nationality.

And if you prefer another topic entirely, feel free to choose from any of my church service videos or written agendas.

Peace be with you,
