Dementia-friendly church service: Season of Creation

Last September, I created a new nondenominational worship service video based on the liturgical Season of Creation, celebrated by denominations worldwide. (Read my original blog for background on this annual observance.)

I’ve updated the video slightly for 2023, and of course it’s still suitable for older adults with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The Season of Creation runs from September 1 (World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation) to October 4 (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology). So feel free to use this service anytime during that span.

Watch the 45-minute church service for the Season of Creation here.

Here’s my written agenda for the Season of Creation worship service. If possible, gather natural elements for elders to interact with during the service: pinecones, seashells, leaves, fresh and dried flowers, even nature sounds and large photos of natural vistas.

Peace be with you,

P.S. Although my service is evergreen (appropriate for every year), an ecumenical team creates a new theme each year. Explore the 2023 Season of Creation materials.
