New nondenominational worship service for July 4: Security

This week’s online nondenominational worship service focuses on the July 4 holiday, Independence Day, to think about security. What and who do we rely on to keep us safe?

As always, this 48-minute YouTube church service is designed for elders with Alzheimer’s and other dementias who may not be able to get out to their place of worship. It includes:

  • History readings about the founding of our country, including an essay called “How Prayer Underpinned the American Revolution” and the final paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Scripture readings, including Psalm 85, which was read to the delegates at the first Continental Congress in 1774.
  • Classic songs and spirituals, with an emphasis on placing our hope in God, our help and shield.
  • An interactive homily on security.

Even as I prepared this service, I felt the lament that our country is still far from embodying the prayers offered in those first days of independence. May we, as Psalm 85 says, turn away from folly and toward God so that “righteousness and peace kiss each other.”

I hope you find this service useful and a blessing to the elders in your care. Thank you for your service to them!

thank you SO MUCH for what you do! You have truly been a blessing to our family. We care for my Mom at home, who has vascular dementia, and with the strict quarantine in our country (Panama, Central America), it has been really hard adjusting since she is a VERY active person. it is so hard to get her to connect with any activity for more than a little while, but she INSTANTLY connects with your program like nothing i’ve seen before. Calms right down and is at peace. Even more so than when she is in her own church, which is her favorite place in the world. Again, i can’t thank you enough. We watch your programs multiple times a day. You have been a life-saver. I am praying for you and your ministry.

I would like to support your ministry in a humble way, but this month is already tight. where can i send a donation next month?

    Thank you!!!! Warmest regards,

Oh my goodness! I’ve got happy tears from reading this beautiful note, Candace. I am absolutely thrilled to hear that your mom is connecting with the videos — I attribute that to a work of God’s Spirit, because I think technology can often be a barrier for elders. So it does my heart good to hear that it’s working for her. Thank you so very much for your prayers. Please don’t feel any pressure to donate — if you ever want and feel led to do so, anytime is fine, but not donating is also fine 🙂 I bless you and your family with joy and comfort while you care for her on this journey. Please get in touch anytime; I’m getting good at Zoom calls too and would be happy to pray for you and your mom.
