Dementia-friendly Ash Wednesday service

Ash Wednesday, which begins the season of Lent, is coming up soon – this year it falls on February 22, 2023. I’ve created and updated an Ash Wednesday video service for elders, including those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, if you’d like to offer this important ritual.

Watch the 41-minute church service for Ash Wednesday here.

I’m posting this early so you have time to purchase or otherwise gather the ashes. They’re available online from numerous sellers. Note that they’re not like regular ashes from a fireplace; the texture is as fine as powder, and a little goes a long way. Just mix a small amount of ashes with a small amount of olive oil before use.

If you prefer to provide an Ash Wednesday service yourself, here’s the written agenda.

Peace be with you,
