Ash Wednesday Service, plus Weekly Lent Devotions & Activities

I posted my Ash Wednesday service several days ago, but in case you missed it … today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, the 40 or so days of reflection and prayer before the celebration of Easter. As it is written,

In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God
. –Isaiah 40:3

If you’d like to offer an Ash Wednesday service for elders, including those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias:

In addition, you may want to download my free Lenten Devotions and Activities guide (PDF) to use during each week of Lent.

These short devotions include simple meditations and hands-on activities that follow the same themes as my Lenten church services:

  • Lent week 1: repentance
  • Lent week 2: humility
  • Lent week 3: charity
  • Lent week 4: grace
  • Palm Sunday

Peace be with you as we begin this special season,

    Dear Elisa,

Thank you so much for your wonderful Ash Wednesday service. I played it for some of our residents in Memory Care. They were able to sing along with the hymns and pray the Lord’s Prayer. One resident even repeated the prayers as you offered them. I didn’t have ashes but I think it was a meaningful experience for our residents and I’m so grateful for your ministry.

Easy to read lyrics are so wonderful.

I was so blessed to share this with the people I serve. God knew I needed this encouragement since I have just returned to work after a 4 month leave to heal from surgery. Thank you so much.

    Blessings,

    Grace

Grace, what a lovely note. Thank YOU for offering this care to your memory care residents — and I’m glad you experience what I often tell people: that you’ll receive as much or more blessing yourself as you serve these dear people. Blessings to you, and prayers for your continued healing!
