2 dementia-friendly services: Peace, Advent week 4; and Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

I made just a few minor updates to this week’s nondenominational worship service for Advent week 4, on the theme of peace. (Once again, in case you’re wondering, find out why I ordered the themes this way 😇)

Oh, how elusive peace can seem … as rare as spotting a cardinal in the backyard! I hope this service brings comfort and peace to you and the elders you serve, including those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Watch the 44-minute church service on peace, Advent week 4, here.

And here’s the written agenda on peace.

Have you ever gone to a Christmas Eve candlelight service? Some churches go all out, with live manger animals and huge choirs. All that stimulation can be overwhelming for elders with dementia, but they may still have fond memories of going to candlelight services on Christmas Eve.

I encourage you to enjoy this short candlelight Christmas Eve service with your elders. It’s a simple but beautiful way to evoke memories while celebrating the Light of the World.

Of course, you can offer this service at any time of day — you don’t have to wait until evening 🕯️ If possible, have a battery-powered candle available for every participant.

Watch the 36-minute Christmas Eve Candlelight Service here.

And here’s the written agenda for the Christmas Eve service, along with free, downloadable Christmas carols.

Merry Christmas!
