Dementia-friendly church service: Lent 1, Repentance & Forgiveness

Since last night was Ash Wednesday, this weekend is the first Sunday of Lent, the 40+ days of reflection and preparation leading up to Easter. I have special themes for each of these weeks, starting with repentance and forgiveness in this week’s updated nondenominational worship service.

As always, the service is suitable for older adults with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Watch the 45-minute worship service for Lent week 1 here.

And here’s the written agenda.

Also, in case you missed it: I have a free booklet of Lenten Devotions and Activities, also dementia-friendly. You may want to use these during the season to deepen your loved ones’ experience of this special season.

Peace be with you,

Hi Chaplain Elisa Will you be placing your service for this Sunday, Feb 18, on YouTube? I’d like to try it out for the first time to see how the residents enjoy it. Thank you. Blessings, Mary

Here’s my first email to you from back in August. I’m guessing It was probably a no reply email address n that’s why you didn’t receive it. Please pray for me as I’m running out of steam n motivation to continue in this ministry. The same thing has happened with my Bible Study homework. Spiritual Warfare?

Thank you Chaplain Elisa Mary C Tinnes

Dear Mary, you’re right, I never received that original email! Sorry to have missed it. For future reference, my direct email is elisa@spiritualeldercare.com. I’ll certainly pray for you — but dear sister, be encouraged that if all you did was listen to and pray for people, that would be a HUGE service and blessing. Don’t beat yourself up if you lose steam with the Bible study; sure, it could be spiritual warfare, but it also could be a nudge to stop and rest and listen to the Lord’s voice for what he would have you do. I’ll pray for discernment from the Holy Spirit and freedom in your spirit. If you’re ever anywhere near Boulder or even halfway, let’s meet up! Or maybe I could come to Mapleton Care Center sometime.

        thank you Chaplain Elisa.

u r correct! I have been praying n asking different leadership n others in my Christian circles for months about these needs.

only recent did I receive any interest. Right not it’s very fresh, but there may be someone to do the Bible Study message twice a month on Wednesdays.

I’m still seeking a piano player who can transpose music to a lower range so my voice comes through better, n to deliver a message for church on Sundays.

until God provides, I was thinking of using your videos for Sunday services. The time they’ve given us is just 45 minutes. .. which is the same for your service tomorrow.

Your format is different than the residents are use to, so we’ll see how it goes. I bet it will be just fine! 🙂

btw, do you also have the song sheet lyrics online for your church services so they can be copied?

I’m usually searching on YouTube for just the right songs that will match up with the 3 boxes of song sheets I’ve been given.

if I use your videos for church services moving forward, It would be very helpful for the residents to have the lyrics match up with the songs. I make up song packets as needed. Many residents need the words close to their eyes. So, I usually use video/lyrics n song packets.

thanks again for your prayers n response. I think I’m headed in the right direction.

Since this time last year, I think I’ve taken on way too much, so the good Lord is slowing me down to rest. But it’s been good n inspirational for me n gave me purpose since my husbands passing in Oct 2022.

God Bless you n u r always welcomed to Mapleton Care Center, Chaplain Elisa. You are a BLESSING!

        Mary
